I'm heading out tomorrow for New Orleans for the Rising Tide conference, organized by the NOLA Bloggers in honor of the upcoming anniversary of Katrina's Landfall and the Federal Flood that followed. I am very excited! There will be a cocktail reception tomorrow evening (gotta love that) and a full slate of expert and interesting speakers on tap for Saturday (followed, of course, by another cocktail reception). I will spend Sunday with my son, who'll be working Friday and Saturday anyway, and then head back either late Sunday or early Monday, when his classes start at Loyola University. While I'm there, I'll be staying with Dangerblond, who so graciously invited me, after a very slight nudge from Adrastos (otherwise she wouldn't have known), who is both a NOLA Blogger and a resident of Blog-City. Check out their blogs for interesting facts about tax issues relative to finding hidden treasure and the top ten reasons to attend Rising Tide. I can't wait. Anyway, I'm not going to be around quite as much until I've returned from my trip, which is after all, a kind of exercise in democracy, so I am posting this picture for your viewing pleasure. It was shared with me by a friend in another little corner of the "internets". She's a teacher from the heartland and asked not to be credited, but I will say that her screenname is Sally and she took this picture this summer while visiting Washington D.C. It speaks for itself. Thank you, Sally.
Finally, our dear John-Ward Leighton has been having problems with Blog-City and is temporarily unable to access his blog. You can find him happily posting away, pictures and all, at Jayward Toadfire, at least until such time as the Mayoress is able to resolve his access issues with Blog-City. Hang in there, John-Ward. I hope the rest of you fine people who take the time to read this blog have a safe and happy weekend. I will report (with pics) from New Orleans, when I return!
Peace, out, ya'll.
Edit: Still in New Orleans on Monday. The conference was amazing and wonderful and the folks who are involved with this group are exceptional. I feel so fortunate to have gotten to know them. Today (and yesterday) Middle Son and I have been working on an article for The Oldest's magazine (shamelessly promoted in my gutter). Hitting the road a little later this afternoon. Later.
