Widgetized and weird, ready or not 11/19/06

As our sweet Mella said, I've been "widgetized" and it didn't hurt a bit. Thanks to Rosie and Libertine for helping, along with Mella, and Mikey, JoeJoe, Papillon and Mary Blu, Blog-City trailblazers all, for leading the virtual way. I'm still having a couple of glitches, which can hopefully be resolved with the help of our fair Mayoress, et al. For one thing, when I try to load the page in Firefox, it gets stuck and I can't navigate. I can't scroll down or open a new tab, although I can open new windows and applications, so I can open Safari and get here that way. I don't seem to be having any problems with any other sites in Firefox, including other Blog-City blogs, so I have to think it's something I've done. I am guilty of keeping too many entries on the main page and having long lists of bookmarks in the gutter, but I don't know if they might be causing the trouble. If any of you have problems with my site loading, I'd appreciate knowing about it. The more time I spend browsing with Firefox, the more I like it, most especially the tab feature. It's so much easier to keep track of open pages, and to navigate from tab to tab than from window to window.

John Sherck sort of tagged me for Six Weird Things About Me, which has been going around. I've thought about it, and come to the conclusion that I'm really very ordinary. Here's my best effort:

  1. I was born at midnight, the stroke thereof, twelve o'clock, twenty-four hundred hours. Some confusion about my actual date of birth has followed.
  2. I drive like a man, or I drive like we think men drive. I know men who drive like we think women drive.
  3. I have reached a point in life at which I have no interest in anyone who is interested in me for the way I look. Personality is everything.
  4. I've learned way too much about mental illness and it's made me much healthier.
  5. I like sports. I learned a long time ago that watching the game, especially being able to prioritize watching the game, was a helluva lot easier than many things I could be doing on Sunday afternoon (like school work, or house work or snack preparation duties for those who were watching the game).
  6. I think this is the very first "meme" I've ever done.

Thanksgiving is coming, whether or not I'm ready. I'm very excited. The apartment could use some straightening (it's been worse) and I have a load of work to complete for my internet marketing client (although I've gotten a good bit done this weekend), but I'm taking Wednesday and Friday off from the KnockingShitDownCo, and most of the grocery shopping is done. Middle Son is coming Tuesday evening from New Orleans and The Oldest is due on Wednesday from Wilmington, NC. We're gathering at Sister's house in Roswell, on nine lovely acres overlooking a little lake and surrounded by pines. It's a beautiful spot to gather and I'm really looking forward to it, although our group will be smaller than usual. We'll have turkey and ham and salad and rolls and dessert. Sister Bel and I will bring my baked brie (stuffed with pecans and honey and wrapped in fillo), the pan dressing (cornbread and sourdough based), the sweet potatoes and the green beans (I think that's right). We will drink champagne and laugh too much.

Basketball is starting up for The Youngest. He has a scrimmage at Emory University this afternoon. I'm not sure who it's against or if parents are welcome, but his first real game is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It's so different from baseball, so hyperactive and fast, so many things happening simultaneously rather than in quick sequence. I do love watching him play though. He is focused and intense. He plays most of the time with his tongue out (bit it almost off once and had to have it sewed back together by an oral surgeon), and has really excellent ups for a big-boned white kid.

In the meantime, I am working on switching my life over to my new laptop so this sick old Mac can go in for service. It's easier said than done, so I'm still on the weary Mac (we're a perfect pair, both of us rode hard and put up wet, as they say). In the process, I'm waiting for my wireless router to arrive from Earthlink. I ordered it months ago and it never came, so I ordered it again, after being credited for having paid for it without having received it. Hopefully it will come, and I will hook it up, open the laptop and everything will work perfectly the very first time. Right?

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and special wishes for safe travel to all of you who may be off visiting for the holiday, and, of course, as always, peace, out, ya'll.
